I have always had great faith in the collective wisdom of the American people, until now. I have always had great faith in the strength and power of the American economy powered by liberty and individual entrepeneurialism, until now. My country is moving at a staggering pace from the shining city on a hill to the cold, damp, dark denizen of the cave. Everywhere there are good people, smart people, well meaning people who have succombed to the idealogy of the weak. The government is their guarantor. They are ever more willing, it seems, to give up their liberty for a false sense of security. Our powerful military that provides order for the entire world is to be ridiculed and made weak. The citizens are to hand over the fruits of their hard earned work to a centralized government further and further from their homes, and then beg to that government to please give some of it back. I wince when watching TV with a child as the commercials during prime time viewing hours approach ever closer to pornography. I am no prude, but enough already. Our decaying values are emblematic of the decay incompassing our entire culture. We are encouraged to consume beyond our means and then expect to be forgiven our excesses. And why not? Doesn't our government do the very same thing? Who is this man we have elected our President? Is he a fool or is he the devil? So many of us do not care. Obama will pay our mortgage. He will give us cars and TV's and gas and cable too. He will provide our health care and our education. And he will do all of this by taxing the rich. How can so many be so ignorant?cdorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13692378691739415168noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5492310882851199969.post-48431035497101789672009-05-06T12:38:00.000-04:002009-05-06T12:38:00.000-04:00I have a friend who works in the oil fields. He does rig work.

About two weeks ago, he was told that field work was shutting down, and the company was going to send him and his team out to the off-shore rigs on a week out week in basis in order to keep them on the payroll. Apparently, something changed, and this last week, he was told that there'd be no drilling for two months. On a practical basis, I'm not sure what this means - lay off? vacation? but whatever it means, it certainly isn't a good thing - for him, for the company or for the country.sueknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5492310882851199969.post-46588135928257451582009-05-05T22:52:00.000-04:002009-05-05T22:52:00.000-04:00Today I read about the Asians forming the Chiang M...Today I read about the Asians forming the Chiang Mai initiative, a $120 billion 'liquidity pool' to 'defend their currencies'

http://tinyurl.com/ddjl6n

And then I read about a consortium of 6 Gulf nations getting ready to establish a regional central bank in Riyadh as a prelude to launching a common currency.

http://tinyurl.com/c43vcy

(Will they call it the Islamo?)

That tells me they are getting in better position to walk away from the dollar when it tanks.

Not a happy thought.Dinah Lordhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08851219705705635093noreply@blogger.com
