I received the e-mail with the picture and no explanation.
Soldiers in Israel walk around with their rifles. (When I was in Israel in January my nephew let me hold his - unloaded - M-16. He said it was bought from the U.S. - Viet Nam surplus.) So it's not at all unusual to see a group of soldiers standing around socializing, each one with a rifle and clip hanging over their shoulders.
While on a trip to Israel's Golan Heights, my husband and I enjoyed wine tasting along with 40 Israeli Soldiers. Although some joined us in tasting, others remained alert, with guns/rifles available. We felt perfectly safe and in very good company. Adrienne and Stu
