Something Lost In The Translation

From a department store in Osaka, Japan, via Counting Cats:



I read somewhere, can't find it now, that there is a type of post-New Year's sale in Japan of overstocked goods that is in fact pronounced as "foo kin." Spelling it out in phonetic English, probably not a good idea.

Of course, this is far from the first time that such translations have led to comic results.

    Actually it's pronounced like that in the north of England too you'll find ;)

    (I more than amply concur with their protest, but just putting a visual consciousness-raising component in the middle of accessing the site would be more than adequate. Actually shutting down their service is brain-damaged).
