Watcher's Council Nominations - 12 March 2008

Each week, the members of the Watcher's Council nominate one of their own posts and a second from outside the Council for consideration by other council members in a contest for best post. The Watcher publishes the results each Friday morning. The Watcher also has a process for anyone who would like to submit one of their posts for consideration as part of the weekly contest. You can find out more about that here. This week's nominations are:

Council Nominations:

1. Wolf Howling: Change & The Cessation of British History
Britain has been a laboratory for socialism over the past half century. It has ended with a dispirited country ashamed of its history and quietly allowing its democratic traditions and values to be cast aside as the socialist Labour government votes to transfer the country's sovereignty to the EU without any vote of the people.

2. Rhymes With Right: The Pittsburgh Airport Incident
RWR recounts an incident of exceptional unprofessionalism by a TSA employee in Pittsburgh.

3. The Colossus of Rhodey: Whaaat? An Anti-Jihad Comicbook? NOOO!!
How the socialist ethos have infected the comic book world, and how an "anti-jihad" comic is being vilified. His final two examples show accurately how the insane left have changed the rules of the game since WWII.

4. Done With Mirrors: AP Does It Again
One wonders how long the Mainstream Media remains mainstream. One wonders if this is just poor editing or deliberate twisting.

5. Joshuapundit: Torture
JP ponders waterboarding and other techniques both with the rubric of effectiveness and whether they constitute torture. It is a very good read.

6. Soccer Dad: A Long Ten Minutes
SD's family has suffered death and close calls because of Islamic terrorists, the most recent massacre at Merkaz Harav included. SD reflects on these incidents and the feelings he has experienced while waiting to hear if his family members were safe.

7. Bookworm Room: Biology Will Have Its Way *UPDATE*
The feminist goal of complete equality, including the utter right to act in line with the lowest common denominator of some aspects of male society, is bearing unintended and unwanted fruit. I would characterize all that BWR writes here as coming under the fruits of secular socialism - and as her updates show, it is particularly bad in Britain.

8. Big Lizards: Californichusetts
BL takes a look at the effort to have California courts declare a constitutional right to same sex marriage under the state's equal protection clause. But the concept of marriage between "breeders" is, as BL notes, a pillar of society and, as BL advocates, it is time to "stand athwart history and yell 'STOP.'"

9. The Education Wonks: Exposing Washington's Wasteful Ways: Where's PigFoot?
Its nice to see attention finally being paid to bi-partisan and out of control pork.

10. Cheat Seeking Missiles: Bush Wields a Necessary Veto
CSM has a thoughtful essay on our nation's need for a real debate on interrogation techniques devoid of the left's demagoguery.

11. The Glittering Eye: The Cook County Fiscal Mess
GE provides an economics lesson notable for its clarity.

12. Right Wing Nut House: Obama-Rezko and Media Ignorance of "The Chicago Way"
Rick ponders when the reality of Obama's political background in the corrupt world of Chicago politics will make its way into the MSM.

Non-Council nominations:

1. The Conservative Cat: Confused Americans for Truth -- Here's How Barack Obama Can Prove He Has What It Takes

2. Orient Lodge: Attorney Jon Schoenhorn's Arguments in the Doninger Case at the Second Circuit

3. Foreign Affairs: An Empty Revolution

4. Protein Wisdom: Rubbernecking (or Holy Crap, I Kind of Agree with MoDo for the Second Time in a Month)[Dan Collins]

6. Michael Yon: Guitar Heroes

7. TheTerrorWonk: Venezuela & The Terror Supporters List: Pros & Cons

8. Townhall.com: The High School Massacre

9. BeldarBlog: Spitzer "Casts Himself Not Just As an Enforcer of the Law Per Se, But Also As an Enforcer of a Broader Social Compact"

10. Michelle Malkin: Left and Right Agree: Eliot Spitzer Must Go

11. Watching America: The USS Cole and America's Election

12. Iowahawk: Amid Charges of Spitzer Tryst, Embattled Prostitute "Kristen" Expected to Resign

13. American Thinker: The Tragedy of the Democratic Party

14. Hillbilly White Trash: The Long National Nightmare Continues

15. Dodgeblogium: Freedom 101 Reviewed...
