CPAC's Folly

This year's attendees at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) voted in their straw poll as to whom they would like to see elected President. The winner this year - libertarian (not conservative) Ron Paul. My assessment of Mr. Paul is that he is off the deep end on a majority of issues - living in every bit as much a fantasy world as those on the far left. The fact that he won the straw poll may not be that meaningful, but by the same token, I am now looking at everything coming out of CPAC with a much more critical eye than in the past. CPAC has definately come down several notches in my estimation. And if a significant number of conservatives do in fact embrace the folly and fantasy of Ron Paul, that bodes very poorly indeed both for the upcoming elections and, more importantly, any chance to right our rapidly sinking ship of state.

It was just Paulians doing the only thing they're good at, stuffing polls. I think they have won every online poll ever.

I agree with ck...

Apparently there were approximately 10,000 attending, about 2400-2500 votes were cast (you also apparently had to look for the booths where voting ballots were offered), and of those about 1/3 voted for Paul. That means about 600 total, out of 10,000. You have to hand it to the Paul enthusiasts - they are a determined bunch. Even to the point of being cultish.

I do wonder what it is about Paul that supports that mentality...

I sure hope the two of you are right.

I'd be tempted to attribute Ron Paul's ascendancy to democratic infiltration, but for the rule of "Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity."

Paul (definitely not Ron Paul)

Yeah, no one I know can figure it out. Most agree that he may have a few points but he is weak where it counts and crazy otherwise.

The rest - the speakers were awesome, the energy was palpable, and the reports out reflected that - and the "progressives" are spinning in their soon to be graves.

What the straw poll indicates, and does so with out any question or doubt, is that Paul's Poll Polluters and Packers had access to the input.

Old news--been going on for a couple-three years that I can think of.

There really is nothing to see here.....
