A commentor to a post below on the Ground Zero Mosque has pointed out one of the truly grotesque but underreported aspects of this insanity - the fact that, while Mayor Bloomberg and President Obama are out hawking for Imam Rauf, NYC has yet to allow the rebuilding of a church destroyed in the attack on the World Trade Center.
The Greek Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas was built in 1922. The World Trade Center Complex was later built next to the Church. Then, as the Church's website tells the story, "[o]n September 11th, the entire weight of World Trade Center Tower 2 came down on St. Nicholas Church, completely destroying the building and its contents. Only a handful of damaged icons and religious items were found amongst the rubble."
The Church has been seeking to rebuild since the act of war on 9-11. NYC, however, has apparently put up a series of bureaucratic delays and broken numerous promises along the way. In light of the recent acts of Bloomberg and Obama, this is truly outrageous. For much more on this story, see here.

see what happens when yhou elect a Republican to be mayor!
I'd like to ask all Americans supporting St. Nicholas Church to call, write, or better yet, GO AND VISIT the offices of their US Representative and US Senators. You will probably just get to talk to a staffer, but the staffer will pass this information along. It makes a BIG difference if you take the trouble to write a personal letter or show up in person.
Everyone, please, pass the information along to everybody else you know who might be interested. Put it on Facebook, repost it on your own blog, email it to your friends and relatives, whatever else you can think of. We need to get something done while the issue is still in the public eye.
Thanks again for posting this!
