The Results Are In
Each week, the members of the Watcher's Council nominate one of their own posts and a second from outside the Council for consideration by other council members in a contest for best post. The Watcher publishes the results each Friday. And the results of this weeks voting are in:
This weeks winner was my post, Obama’s Lawsuit Against Arizona (Updated), that looks at both the substance and dangerous ramifications of Obama's attempt to overturn Arizona's recently enacted law targeting illegal aliens. There was a tie for second place between Right Truth's analysis of the book, A World Without Islam and the Glittering Eye's analysis of the state of our economy, Foundations of Sand. Both are excellent posts. Let me also make special mention of Mike Volpe's post this week, Mark Clements and Chicago’s Culture of Torture. You can go to his site and follow the link to read his article of the same name. It is as well written as you will find anywhere. I highly recommend it.
In the non-Council category, the winner was Caroline Glick's exceptional look at the state of Euro anti-semitism, – Standing down the hanging jury. There was a three way tie for second place between Patterico’s Pontifications's Feinstein on Judicial Inexperience, Then and Now, Zenpundit's Reality, Strategy and Afghanistan: Some Questions, and Israel Matzav's Who is orchestrating a US rapprochement with Hezbullah and Hamas?.
There were some great entries this week. You can find them all, as well as the full results of the voting at the Watcher's site.

Last Week's Winners
Each week, the members of the Watcher's Council nominate one of their own posts and a second from outside the Council for consideration by other council members in a contest for best post. The Watcher publishes the results each Friday. And the results of last weeks voting are in:
The winner in a run-away was Bookworm Room for her brilliantly ironic post, Redefining the word racist so that it suits ME. It really is a good read that take's the race baiting industry to task for both throwing the race card with no basis in fact and pursuing policies that hurt minorities. Coming in second place was my post, The War On Religion. Of note, and complimentary to Bookworm's post, is one from the Collossus of Rhodey, “You have to trust your gut,” which is as fine an explanation of the bankrupt critical race theory as I have seen anywhere.
In the Non-Council Category, the winning post was Cato Unbound's The Rise of the New Paternalism. Coming in second place was Victor Davis Hanson's Next Battle: Immigration
There were some great entries last week. You can find them all, as well as the full results of the voting at the Watcher's site.

Terry Trippany plays the role of Watcher of Weasels. Do visit the Watcher's Site for his theme of the week. This week, it is the disasterous cap and trade bill just passed unread in its entirety by the House:
As you know the House passed the Waxman-Malarkey cap-n-tax global warming bill thanks in part to 8 sellout Republicans that took money from environmental whackos in return for a vote that will cost American’s millions of jobs, further erode our nation’s competitive standing and suck more of the hard earned money you make from your family so it can be siphoned to friends of those in Congress.
But don’t believe me. The Heritage foundation took a look at the figures from both the EPA and the CBO and found that they vastly under estimated their numbers. These are the numbers being peddled as fact for your reference.
Today’s liberals however see the Heritage numbers as a conservative ploy. . . .
Terry continues on, noting that the real culture of corruption lies on the left. Do read his entire post.
This week's nominations are:
Concil:

Terry Trippany plays the role of Watcher of Weasels. Do visit the Watcher's Site for his theme of the week. This week, it is the techniques of propaganda being employed by the one:
Propaganda must always address itself to the broad masses of the people. (…) All propaganda must be presented in a popular form and must fix its intellectual level so as not to be above the heads of the least intellectual of those to whom it is directed. (…) The art of propaganda consists precisely in being able to awaken the imagination of the public through an appeal to their feelings, in finding the appropriate psychological form that will arrest the attention and appeal to the hearts of the national masses.
Those aren't actually Obama's words - nor Terry's, for that matter, they're Hitler's. Terry quotes liberally from Mein Kampf to show that Obama's techiniques in fact have well trod historical antecedents. Do read Terry's entire post, When President's Tell Yarns: A Culture Of Deceit.

Watcher's Council Results & An Opening
Obama is not being asked to do anything, he is just being asked to say something. As we’ve noted before, though, Obama believes his words are the equivalent of acts. God-like, he believes that, if he were to say “let there be . . . something (such as light),” that means that there will be this . . . something (such as light). For this reason, he believes that his taking a Reaganesque posture and speaking out openly against evil, corruption, and antidemocratic impulses is identical to the physical act of placing a bomb under the Mullahs and lighting the fuse. In his own mind, his powers of speech are so tremendous that thought and deed are inseparable. . . . Coming in Third place with 1 1/3 point – Soccer Dad - The campaign’s the thing, expressing the fact that Obama's support of Israel is wholly superficial and, in particular, taking Obama to task for adopting the Palestinian position that Israel's claim to its land extends back to the holocaust, not to biblical antiquity: Well it seems that whatever positions President Obama took during the campaign regarding Israel were mostly for show. Pro-Palestinian groups are very encouraged by the administration's approach so far. . . . In the Non-Council category, coming in first place was Michelle Malkin's Obama’s AmeriCrooks and cronies scandal: President Obama promised he would end “Washington games.” But his abrupt firing of the AmeriCorps inspector general is more of the same. The brewing scandal smells like the Beltway cronyism of the Bush years. And the apparent meddling of First Lady Michelle Obama in the matter smacks of the corruption of the Clinton years. If Obama keeps up with this “change,” we’ll be back to the Watergate era by Christmas. Coming in tied for second was Christopher Hitchens's Don’t Call It An Election In Iran, making the point that the original election in Iran was itself a sham, irrespective of the sham of vote fraud on a grand scale: I went to the last major Ahmadinejad rally and got the whiff of what I imagine fascism to have been all about. Lots of splotchy boys who can't get a date are given guns and told they're special. . . . Also tied for second place was The Hashmonean's Coup D’etat: The Revolutionary Guards In Control of Iran Had Nothing to Fear From Obama Biden (Link Update I), a good article also on the nature of Iran as it currently exists - it is evolving from a theocracy into a military dictatorship: The Theocracy is invested in Ahmadinejad because the Revolutionary Guard are invested in Iran. When I say invested I mean literally and figuratively. Over the last number of years the Revolutionary Guards have instituted a near full takeover of Iran. Wielding incredible power internally they have utilized Iran’s great wealth and their positions as the upper crust of Iranian society or access to it, to seize power across the board. The relationship between the guards & Khameni is symbiotic, as much as the Guards need Khameni, the Supreme Leader needs the guards. Coming in tied at third place were MidEastAnalysis.com's What Happened in Iran?, The New Republic's - Narrative Dissonance, and and the Wall Street Journal - What If Israel Strikes Iran? Others receiving votes were: The Last Crusade - CNN, FOX NEWS TURN BLIND EYE TO UPRISING IN IRAN; Legal Insurrection / Hot Air Greenroom - What About The Right Not To Wear Head Covering; Liberty Chick - ACORN Part III; and NewsBusters - Schultz: I ‘Absolutely’ Believe Cheney Wants Americans To DieEach week, the Watcher's Council holds a contest for best post. The Council members submit a post they have written and one post by someone outside the Council for consideration. The Watcher tallies the votes and announces the winners each Friday.
There is an opening on the Council. If you would care to submit your blog for consideration, please visit the Watcher's site. You will find instructions on the right side bar for applying to join the Council.
You can find the results of the weeks voting and the Watcher's cogent commentary on the submissions here. This week's winners were:
Coming in first place was my post discussing various aspects of the situation in Iran, Iran 6/16 – The Fire Still Burning. I address the nature of this revolt; the importance of Iraq; the illegitimacy of both the theocracy and, in particular, Khameini; and an incendiary letter from Khomeini's one time successor, Grand Ayatollah Montazori among other things. I won't excerpt that one, you can follow the link.
Coming in second place was Bookworm Room's Obama’s belief in the power of his own rhetoric, discussing Obama's near inexplicable failure to lend full-throated support to the Iranian rebellion:
What this means is that Obama, though his silence is in fact meddling, because he’s taking sides. Without creating a light of freedom to shine the way for Iran’s oppressed masses, he is casting his (and America’s) whole weight on the side with the guns. There is no middle ground here. You’re either for freedom or you’re against it, and if you refuse to raise your voice for freedom, you’ve loaded another bullet in the oppressor’s gun.
Unfortunately when President Obama spoke in Cairo his main focus of "honest" talk was about settlements. And when he made the case for Israel's legitimacy, he failed to emphasize the historical case, instead making the case that it was the result of the Holocaust. Given his audience that was problematic. But it also reflected the advice he received and, I think, where his sympathies lie.
Iran and its citizens are considered by the Shiite theocracy to be the private property of the anointed mullahs. This totalitarian idea was originally based on a piece of religious quackery promulgated by the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and known as velayat-e faqui. Under the terms of this edict—which originally placed the clerics in charge of the lives and property of orphans, the indigent, and the insane—the entire population is now declared to be a childlike ward of the black-robed state. Thus any voting exercise is, by definition, over before it has begun, because the all-powerful Islamic Guardian Council determines well in advance who may or may not "run." Any newspaper referring to the subsequent proceedings as an election, sometimes complete with rallies, polls, counts, and all the rest of it, is the cause of helpless laughter among the ayatollahs. ("They fell for it? But it's too easy!") Shame on all those media outlets that have been complicit in this dirty lie all last week. And shame also on our pathetic secretary of state, who said that she hoped that "the genuine will and desire" of the people of Iran would be reflected in the outcome. Surely she knows that any such contingency was deliberately forestalled to begin with.

Watcher's Council Nominationas & An Opening
Each week, the members of the Watcher's Council nominate one of their own posts and a second from outside the Council for consideration by other council members in a contest for best post. The Watcher publishes the results each Friday morning.
There is an opening at the Council if you would like to nominate your blog for the Council. If you go to the Watcher's site, you will find instructions on how to apply on the right-hand sidebar.
Terry Trippany plays the role of Watcher of Weasels. Do visit the Watcher's Site for his theme of the week. Normally, he chooses a single topic on which to write, but he today gives voice to a reality that also struck me in the past week - the vast amount of hot topics that are innundating us today. His thoughts on it are worth repeating:
One thing is certain however, each topic usually has two things in common, Barack Obama, and a corrupt media failing to provide the oversight and insight necessary to adequately educate the people they seek to
informinfluence.
Regardless of the topic you will usually find that Barack Obama is at the root of the problem, not as some sort or problem solver but as an antagonist or an agitprop. Whether it is the Obama administration’s missteps on Iran by failing to support democracy and liberty over tyranny and oppression, the illegal firing and subsequent smear campaign against former AmeriCorps inspector general Gerald Walpin or the further degeneration of the mainstream media as ABC teams up with the White House to promote the Democrats plan to get their hands on the Health Care industry and all the dollars that go with it, Barack Obama is a central figure in each of these problems.
Do read Terry's entire post.

Watcher's Council Results & An Opening
Each week, the Watcher's Council holds a contest for best post.
Coming in first place was Mere Rhetoric's The WH’s Eight-Step Plan For Detonating The US-Israel Relationship, a look at how Obama is subtly but surely taking actions that undermine the "unbreakable bonds" between the U.S. and Israel. Coming in a distant second was my post on the many problems with Obama's Cairo speech, Obama’s Cairo Address: What We Needed, What We Got.
In the Non-Council catgory, coming in first place was an article from Ralph Peters also on Obama's questionable Cairo speech, What Obama Taught Me- Wonderful Arabs, American Slavers, Wicked Jews. Coming in second place was a Victor Davis Hanson post at PJM, The Reckoning.

On to the results. This week's winners were:
Coming in first place in a runaway was Mere Rhetoric exceptional post, Abbas: Olmert Offered Us The West Bank And The Right Of Return, But It Wasn’t Good Enough. Way down the list coming in second place was my post, A Bit Of Honesty From Speaker Pelosi, dealing with how a variety of leftist groups intend to use control over carbon emissions to vastly expand government's role in our life. There were a number of ties at third place, including The Provocateur's Wade Rathke’s Management Council, The Colossus of Rhodey's Yet another reason why the News Journal is sinking, Bookworm Room's Murderer or Martyr — the George Tiller killer, and lastly, Joshuapundit's Race Carding Sotomayor.
In the Non-Council competion, coming in first place in a runaway was Michael J. Totten's The Mother of All Myths, accurately to my mind pointing out that Salafi Islam is the problem in the Middle East, not the Israeli Palestinian issue. Coming in second place, in a three way tie, was the Day by Day Cartoon Amusement Park (do see this one), Asia Times Online's Wrong venue for Obama’s Muslim speech, and Megan McArdle's The War On The War On Abortion. Tie for third place were Reason Online's Nostalgianomics and Gawker's Oh, Keith.
