Juan Williams & Canards Of The Left

Juan Williams comments on the fact that our modern left does not believe in a free and fair airing of opinions; rather, they attempt to punish any who dares articulate a position with which they disagree. This from Williams during an interview with the Daily Caller:

I always thought it was the Archie Bunkers of the world, the right-wingers of world, who were more resistant and more closed-minded about hearing the other side,” he said. “In fact, what I have learned is, in a very painful way — and I can open this shirt and show you the scars and the knife wounds — is that it is big media institutions who are identifiably more liberal to left-leaning who will shut you down, stab you and kill you, fire you, if they perceive that you are not telling the story in the way that they want it told.

Juan Williams is a smart man. Thus I find it telling that Williams wasn't able to see this reality until he was raped by the left in 2010 for daring to say that he got nervous when getting on a plane with men dressed in Muslim garb. The left's preference for demonizing over debate and their intolerance of dissenting opinions has been blatant and obvious for decades. That our left are "liberal" is one of the great canards of the left - but it is only one of many.

The other great canards are that the left champions the middle class and minorities. Nothing could be further from the truth. The left champions these groups only to the extent that they are, at any given moment, pathways to power and money. For instance, blacks are to be protected - but when it comes to a point where blacks and the teachers unions interests diverge, the moneyed teachers unions win. The left speaks of protecting the middle class - but when it comes to things such as cheap energy, the green special interests win out.

If you want to understand the left's actions, look at what they do, now what they say. Rarely do their actions match their rhetoric - and indeed, often that are complete odds. That is one of the reasons the left are so intolerant of dissenting opinion. That is a level of reality that hasn't dawned on Juan Williams yet, but give him time.

Intolerance & The Modern Left

Evil preaches tolerance until it is dominant and then tries to silence good.

That has been the hallmark of our modern left. Do visit Redstate for the full story. I would note that, if you look at the Koran, you will find it divided into two periods that follow the same precise pattern.

Interesting News - 19 January 2008

Silencing free speech in the blogosphere . . . now in Israel and in Finland. In Belarus, they have jailed an editor for blasphemy for reprinting the Danish cartoons. The left cannot tolerate free speech. There is nothing "liberal" about the modern left.

And how's this for a bit of insanity. In the future, all Islamic terrorism designed to promote the creating of a world wide caliphate shall, in Britain, be refered to as anti-Islamic acts. George Orwell goes dhimmi.

I posted the other day on a WSJ article incisively noting that the essence of intolerance was to dehumanize those who disagree with you and to portray them as evil. It is a complete rejection of intellectual honesty and classical liberalism. So, in that vein, how do you think global warming skeptics are being portrayed?

And the rule of thumb, I always thought, was that when you are under attack, the appropriate reaction is a response with overwhelming force. Failing to react is simply an invitation to more attacks.

Ghandi may not agree with my thoughts above, but then again, as Victor David Hanson points out, the current Ghandi seems to have a warped vision of the cause of violence in the world today. Some field work may be required.

The Shield of Achilles asks "Am I still considered an "islamophobe" or a right-wing alarmist if I say that the Netherlands really has a problem?" Read his post and decide for yourself. I think the problem is at least duplicated in the UK. And as we speak, the Dutch gird their loins for a bit of rioting by members of the Religion of Peace.

Righttruth has a terrorism round-up. And Red Alerts has a counter-jihad round-up. Then there is this good round-up from Soob. All are well worth a read. As is this bit of link-whoring poetry.

Tajikistan, a Muslim country, apparently is looking for a bit of separation between mosque and state.

And if your going to embrace left wing non-violence, keying a marines car is not an appropriate way to express your belief. Justice has been served in the case of Jay Grodner.

So what’s worse, Guantanamo Bay or the plight of women in the Middle East? Wajiha Al-Huweidar thinks it’s the latter.

Withn the ranks of the anti-war left is a large contingent that wants the U.S. to fail in Iraq. As one liberal surprisingly framed it, "[t]hat is a malevolent righteousness that properly repels most Americans." Q&O has the story.

American Digest has the latest stupid science round-up.

Where can one find the world biggest rubber stamp? Apparently across the pond in the UK Parliament which just approved a massive transfer of wealth to the EU after only a bit more than 3 hours of debate. As the EU Referendum calculates, that works out to a transfer of British tax dollars at a rate of "£481 million a minute." Part of the reason for the short debate was to hide the demise of UK’s rebate from the EU. As it stands now, the UK’s "net contributions to the EU will increase from an already horrendously large £4.7 billion to £6.8 billion in 2011." It is a mark of how rotted the government is across the pond that the Tories put up no fight against this. This really is a socialist coup. Its getting to sound like time for a Tea Party of sorts. I am sure we can cobble some Mohawk Indian costumes together for a reasonable price if any of our British brethren would care to rent them for a night or two. Read the post here.

Interesting News - 17 January 2008

Rick Moran takes issue with the anti-conservative musings of the Ayatollah Huckabee. The essence of conservatism is freedom of thought. Huckabee is proposing his own mini-theocracy the precise opposite.

The Democrats get to jettison Dennis Kucinich from their debates, but Republicans still have to give air time to Ron Paul. The scales of justice are just not balancing on this one.

The Top Ten UN Slogans. My personal favorite: "If this is an emergency, please hang up and call America." Do read them all.

When did World War II end? Read this thoughtful post and decide for yourself.

Ex-GOP Congressman Mark Siljander has been arrested and charged with a bevy of offenses connected to terrorism financing.

The reverberations from the NIE on Iran’s Nuclear Weapon’s Program continue. As I indicated at the time, the only possible conclusion is that the declassified NIE was written in such a manner as to take Iran policy out of the hands of the executive and put it in the hands of the State Department. The reverberations of that act portend to grow ever louder with the passage of time.

Bill Rogio, Michael Ledeen and several other luminaries took part in a recent symposium on Iraq. Their depth of thought is a bit more illuminating than you are likely to hear at the average Democratic Presidential Debate. See here.

Free speech is once again under fire. The victim this time is the Pope who was censored by scholars at Sapienza, one of Europe's most prestigious universities. The scholars successfully argued that it was inappropriate for the Pope to speak at their University because he had supported the 17th century trial of Galileo for heresy arising out of Galileo’s own exercise of freedom of speech. The irony of censoring the Pope on these grounds apparently went wholly unnoticed by the leftist scholars. I for one wish I had but a tenth of the moral clarity of today’s left.

Arthur Brooks at the WSJ points out that our modern left is less rational and more intolerant than are conservatives. "The very essence of intolerance is to dehumanize the people with whom you disagree by asserting that they are not just wrong, but wicked." The moniker of Bush-Hitler comes to mind. I disagree with Brooks’s labeling of the modern left as "liberal." They are "progressives" – having long ago progressed beyond the liberal traditions of intellecutal honesty and tolerance.

Stick and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me. Unless of course I happen to be a member of the religion of peace, in which case words pose a mortal threat to my identity and justify my own homicidal temper tantrum. Do read this story about Susan Winter down under. She has really, really pissed off the Salafists. Sheik Yer Mami has the story on this one.
